This Privacy Policy explains how Sonar Music (the "App"), published by Sonar Inc. ("we", "us", "our"), handles information when you use it. Sonar Music is an offline music player for Android that plays audio files already stored on your device.
The short version: Sonar Music does not require an account, does not send your music, listening activity, playlists or personal information to our servers, and contains no in-app analytics used for data analysis. Your data stays on your device.
Developer / publisher: Sonar Inc.

Everything in this section is stored locally on your device. We do not receive, collect or have access to it.
Audio files and their metadata. To build your library, the App reads audio files on your device and their embedded information (title, artist, album, album artist, duration, track number, embedded cover art and lyrics). It uses the audio permission granted by Android (READ_MEDIA_AUDIO on Android 13 and later, or the storage permission on earlier versions). The App only reads audio files; it does not scan your photos, videos, contacts, messages or other personal files.
Content you create in the App. This includes playlists, queue contents, hidden tracks, custom tags (title, artist, album and album artist overrides), custom cover images you choose, and lyrics you add or paste. Tag edits are stored as app-level overrides and do not alter your original audio files.
Listening activity. The App records listening time and similar play statistics locally so it can show them to you and sort your library. We do not access this information.
Settings and preferences. Theme, accent and background colors, saved looks, text style, sort orders, playback speed and pitch, sleep timer options, and other settings.
Images you select. If you choose a picture as a cover for a song, album or playlist, the App copies it into its own storage. The App only accesses images you pick.
Clipboard. The "Paste Text" feature reads your clipboard only when you tap it, to use the text as lyrics. The App does not monitor your clipboard in the background.
Notifications and background playback. The App shows a media notification and runs a foreground playback service so music can continue while the screen is off. It requests the notification permission on Android 13 and later. The App does not use these to collect information.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise or approximate location, contacts, advertising ID, device identifiers for tracking, microphone recordings, or camera images. The App has no user accounts, and no sign-in is required.
We do not sell, rent, trade or share your personal information with anyone. Because we collect no personal data, we have no personal data to disclose to third parties.
There are two situations in which information leaves the App because of an action you choose or an Android feature, described below.
If you tap "Search online" on a song with no lyrics, the App opens your web browser and runs a Google search containing the search keyword you set in Settings and, if enabled, the song title and artist name. This search is performed by your browser and search engine, not by us. Google's handling of that search is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can change the keyword or turn off the artist name in Settings.
Your device may back up App data (such as playlists, settings and custom tags) to your Google account through Android's backup service, and may restore it when you set up a new device. This is controlled by your Android and Google account settings and is handled by Google under its own privacy policy; we do not receive this data. You can turn it off in your device's backup settings. The App also offers its own backup and restore feature, where backups are created and saved only to a location you choose. We do not access your backups.
App data is stored in the App's private storage area on your device, which Android protects from other apps through its app sandbox. The App makes no network connections of its own to transmit your data. Your data is also protected by your device's security features, such as screen lock and device encryption. No method of storage is perfectly secure, so we encourage you to keep your device updated and protected.
We do not hold any of your data on our servers, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on your behalf. Data stored by the App stays on your device until you remove it. You can delete it as follows:
Delete specific items: Delete playlists, clear the queue, remove custom covers, or reset tag edits inside the App.
Delete everything: Clear the App's storage in Android Settings (Settings > Apps > Sonar Music > Storage > Clear data), or uninstall the App. This permanently removes all App data from your device.
Backups: If you used Android backup, backed-up copies are held by Google and can be managed or deleted in your Google account's backup settings. You can also delete local backups at any time through your device's file manager.
Because the App has no accounts, there is no account to delete. Your audio files are not owned or stored by the App and are not deleted when you uninstall it.

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the App collects no personal information, it can be used without sharing any.
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA or similar laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information. Because we do not collect or store your personal information, we hold nothing to provide, correct or delete, and you control all data in the App directly on your device. If you believe we hold information about you, contact us at the address above and we will respond as required by law.
The App operates on your device and does not transfer your data internationally. Any transfer that occurs through Android backup or a browser search is handled by Google under its own terms.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at this address and change the "Last updated" date.
